In addition to placing limits on the capacity of large venues, Ontario has announced a new restrictions in response to the spread of the Omicron variant — and several of these rules impact the film and music industry.
Food and drink services have been banned inside of concert venues and theatres, meaning that attendees will be required to keep masks on at all times. Sporting events face the same restriction.
Premier Doug Ford announced this new rule at a press conference on Friday (December 17). As well as large venues, various other indoor settings have also been reduced to 50 percent capacity, including bars, restaurants, stores, gyms, personal care services and more.
Additionally, bars and restaurants will have to close at 11 p.m., with alcohol sales restricted after 10 a.m.; patrons must be seated and dancing is not allowed.
New pandemic restrictions are also in place in Quebec and British Columbia. See a running list of concert cancellations here.
