Olof Dreijer Returns with First Solo Track Since 2009

"Rosa Rugosa" is his first release for UK label Hessle Audio

After co-producing several tracks on his sibling's latest record Radical Romantics — and releasing a five-track exploration of the steel drum and its colonial history alongside Mt. SimsOlof Dreijer has shared "Rosa Rugosa," his first solo release since 2009.

The wiggling, unmistakably-Dreijer instrumental single is also his first for Legendary UK label Hessle Audio, and it finds the producer playing in the rubbery and vaguely tropical dance music that's laced so much of his work in the past.

"I'm very happy to be back making music again after some time doing other things," Dreijer said in a statement. "I'm surprised to see how much fun I'm having making my own music after a longer period of working on other people's projects."

"I've been trying to make some colourful, energetic music with emotional melodies, I hope there is room for that out on the dance floors," he continued.

Dreijer hasn't exactly been quiet in the years since his last solo release — in addition to the projects listed above, he's also recently worked alongside Tunisian multi-instrumentalist and composer Houeida Hedfi on her debut album Fleuves De L'âme, plus production work with Swedish-Kurdish pop artist Zhala and remixes of Mehdi Bahmad, Emmanuel Jal and Nyaruach, and Robyn's collaboration with Röyksopp.
