Chances are if you've got yourself a copy of Olenka & the Autumn Lovers new album And Now We Sing, you literally just caught the London, ON outfit's live set. In theory, catching the act on their current Canadian tour is the only way you'll be able to get a hold of the self-released set until at least the end of the month.
The new platter appears to dust the band's rustic sound with moments of '50s sock-hop sheen; just check out rockin' opener "Odessa," currently streaming on the group's MySpace. Nevertheless, the album seemingly still features the old-world harmonies - not to mention leader Olenka Krakus's gorgeously haunted waiver - that made the troupe's 2008 self-titled debut such a stunner.
To celebrate their new tunes, the Eastern European-influenced folk poppers grabbed their violins and acoustic guitars and hopped in the van late last week, making their Pop Montreal performance last Saturday (October 2) the band's official album release party. Barring any unfortunate Internet leaks, Olenka & the Autumn Lovers plan to debut the disc in each subsequent city on the tour. Though it could be tough to keep the sneaky Pete's from uploading the disc to torrent sites, Krakus remains adamant that even her friends back in London shouldn't be able to hear the album until the act's homecoming show October 29.
"You won't be able to buy the album in the city of London until the night of our CD-release," Krakus wrote on the Autumn Lovers' Facebook page. "We're releasing the album in the cities we're touring through as we tour. Yes, we're being difficult. But that's just because we want to give you all hugs for helping us get to this milestone."
