Obsessed

Previously available only as a European import from Germany’s Hellhound Records, Lunar Womb was the second album by American doom rock trio The Obsessed. Led by Scott "Wino” Weinrich, the former Saint Vitus front-man who has since gone on to front Spirit Caravan and, more recently, the Hidden Hand, this album was recorded in 1991 with future Kyuss bassist Scott Reeder and drummer Greg Rogers, later of Goatsnake. It is the missing link between the heavy doom of the band’s self-titled debut and their one and only major label album, The Church Within. Not as big sounding as the album that directly followed it, Lunar Womb mix tempos more than any other Obsessed release, with songs such as the instrumental "Spew” and the almost punk "No Blame” proving to be some of the quickest in their catalogue. Skilfully remastered by Dave Shirk, the guy that has made most of the releases on the Relapse label sound so massive, and with informative liner notes written by former SST employee/St. Vitus producer Joe Carducci, this is an essential re-release of one of the great underrated heavy bands of the past 20 years.
