The Obsessed's 'The Church Within' Treated to Deluxe Edition

Nearly 20 years after Maryland doom metal outfit the Obsessed delivered their studio swan song The Church Within, the Scott "Wino" Weinrich-led cult outfit are dusting off the album for a new deluxe edition release.

Though originally issued through Columbia in 1994, the only Obsessed album to be delivered on a major label, this repress arrives November 25 on CD and LP via Real Gone Music/Conveyor Canada. According to a press release, the album features the "unmistakable rasp" of Weinrich's vocals, as well as "crushing, slow-motion riffs" in the vein of Black Sabbath and atonal guitar solos that recall Black Flag.

In addition to the record's original 13 tracks, the repress includes bonus tracks "Mental Kingdom" and the previously unreleased "Melancholy Grey." Also included are the original album art and additional photos, with the vinyl edition arriving in a gatefold jacket.

A "new note" from Weinrich will also be packaged in both versions of the release. You can sample the groove-heavy album opener "To Protect and Serve" down below.
