O Pioneers

Neon Creeps

BY Aaron ZorgelPublished Mar 26, 2009

Since their formation in 2004, O Pioneers!!! have gone through nine members, eight seven-inch records/splits, more tours than they would care to count and two full-lengths, the latter being Neon Creeps. And it really doesn't seem like they're doing it for the mad stacks of cash. That said, the hard work just might pay off for this Houston trio, thanks to their strongest recorded effort to date. The group mesh their influences with a DIY aesthetic, resulting in a ten-song ride that might cite Hot Water Music, Cursive and Against Me! as sources of encouragement. The vocals remain hopeful, with just enough cynicism to ensure that the listener doesn't feel like a dick when yelling along. It's nice to see a band that work hard and aren't full of shit reach the next level, and if O Pioneers!!! keep it up, dudes with beards and tattoos everywhere are going to lose their minds.
