Staying true to the roots of thrash metal's history in Brazil, Nervosa's debut record, Victim of Yourself, is a merciless album. Raw and instinctually primal, Nervosa's sound pays homage to national deity Sepultura by presenting the delicate harmony between speed and groove from which all great thrash metal is spawned.
While it's made very apparent that Nervosa understands the fundamentals of thrash at the beginning of the album, it isn't until the third track, "Wake up and Fight," that the band begin to show off their own iconic riffs. By the time "Nasty Injury" comes on, you'll already be suffering from thrasher neck.
For a trio, the fullness in sound contained within Victim of Yourself is rather astounding; they're able to capture the classic thrash sound that was so iconic to the founding of the genre, while keeping it fresh and relative.
