As he gears up for a long-awaited return to the stage, Neil Young has announced the upcoming release of his long-archived album, Chrome Dreams. At long last, it's arriving on August 11 via Reprise Records.
Although he never officially released it, the album — originally intended to be released in 1977 — has been circulated in bootlegged forms for years. Young even released a sequel album, Chrome Dreams II, in 2007.
Most of the album's songs were eventually released as part of future albums, with five songs making up over half of American Stars 'n Bars with Crazy Horse. However, this new Chrome Dreams release will give listeners an updated version of its tracklist.
According to Rolling Stone, six of the 12 songs on the album will come out in their original formats, while "Pocahontas" — as well as the album's singles, "Sedan Delivery" and "Hold Back the Tears" — will get brand new takes.
"Sedan Delivery" is out now, and you can listen to it below. "Hold Back the Tears" is due to arrive on July 21.
The Chrome Dreams vinyl is now available for pre-order on Young's website.
