It goes without saying that Neil Young is a big archives guy. Now, the legendary singer-songwriter is Taylor Swift-ifying his approach to archival releases with an album of solo re-recordings of songs from throughout his catalogue, presented as one uninterrupted 48-minute piece.

Before and After arrives December 8 via Reprise Records. It follows the August release of the long-lost Chrome Dreams album, recorded between 1974 and 1976.

"Songs from my life recently recorded create a music montage with no beginnings or endings," Young said of the new collection in a statement. "The feeling is captured, not in pieces but as a whole piece. Soon to your ears and heart and soul — music defies shuffling, digital organization, separation. Only for listening."

Before and After was co-produced by the artist and Lou Adler, with Young having played all the instruments (guitar, piano, pump organ and harmonica) save for Bob Rice contributing vibraphone and piano on two tracks. Wilco's Jeff Tweedy is also credited as "Electric Guitar & Amplifier Tech."
