Nadja

Bliss Torn From Emptiness

BY Max DeneauPublished Feb 19, 2008

Rapidly becoming one of Toronto’s most acclaimed acts, Nadja have re-recorded and somewhat tweaked their 2005 independent effort for a reissue via Profound Lore. Originally limited to a mere 60 CD-R copies, Bliss Torn From Emptiness fully merits the re-release, as it is some of the group’s strongest material. The effort is essentially one hour-long track, which continues in the group’s sweltering ambient/doom tradition. Layered melodies and guitars thick as molasses are supported by a minimal drum machine presence, with epic peaks and unsettling, hypnotic lows. This releases is an excellent companion piece to last year’s Touched reissue and stands as one of the stronger offerings in a dense, rewarding discography.
