As MUTEK gets set to celebrate its tenth anniversary this spring, the annual electronic music fest has announced it's going cross-country with a North American mini-tour. Come April, the short string of live dates is to touch down in such cities as Toronto, Vancouver and Edmonton, giving an advance taste of what's to come at the main event in Montreal from May 27 to 31.
On board to lead the tour are Montreal-based knob-twiddlers the Mole and Guillaume & the Coutu-Dumonts, who will be joined by likes of Pier Bucci, Claro Intelecto and Andy Stott, as well as local artists at each tour stop along the way.
"We decided that doing a tour this year, of all years, would be a good way to thank all those people who've made the trip up to Montreal over the last decade," says Dimitri Nasrallah, the festival's content manager (and Exclaim! contributor). "Especially this year, when times are rather tough for a lot of people, we decided it would be worthwhile to bring a little bit of the MUTEK experience to all those folks who'd maybe heard of the festival but, for whatever reason, never made it out. Giving people a taste of what five days in Montreal would sound like will hopefully get people excited for the main event in May."
The headliners of that main MUTEK event are expected to be announced on March 16 and on that same day you will be able to begin buying festival passports (which will also be available to purchase at each tour stop). MUTEK will reveal its complete festival line-up on April 15 and tickets will be sold at individual events.
