For anybody thats been following Mustard Plugs career from even a tertiary perspective, one listen to In Black and White will make it clear that this is a band that have matured. Songs like "Who Benefits? have a darker, more serious and angry sound that hasnt been as prevalent in the bands back catalogue. The songs in general are well crafted, utilising the horn section in a way that doesnt come across as forced or overbearing, instead adding a new dimension to the tracks. Its nice to see one of the bands at the forefront of the late 90s ska explosion evolving and still being able to hold their own.
