If you can believe it, jaunty Portland, OR popsters Menomena have been together for over a decade. That's a long time; apparently too long for multi-instrumentalist Brent Knopf. The musician has decided to leave his longtime bandmates.
A post on the group's website states that "After ten years of fruitful collaboration, Brent Knopf has decided to part ways with Menomena to focus on Ramona Falls and other creative pursuits."
Following the release of last year's odd and awesome pop experiment, Mines, this could come as a serious blow to the troupe, but the rest of Menomena are fully supportive of their friend's decision.
"We want to thank Brent for his vast contributions over the years and wish him nothing but happiness in all of his future endeavors," the statement continued. "All three of us look forward to seeing you soon!"
Despite their loss, Menomena reported that they won't be short-handed for long. Paul Acott will play with them for an upcoming U.S. tour in March. You can check out the dates below. Who knows, maybe Knopf will check them out too.
More Menomena news comes by way of Pitchfork, who report that the group will be reissuing their 2003 debut, I Am the Fun Blame Monster, sometime this spring as a deluxe CD/DVD package. As of yet, no further information has been released, but the set promises to feature "extensive bonus features." It will be put out by FILMGuerrero.
