Michael Jerome Browne

Drive On is Michael Jerome Brown's second LP, and he ably demonstrates his musical competency. Largely made up of covers and traditional numbers, MJB also shows that he is able to pen his own tunes, which make up about a third of the record. While this isn't an outstanding CD, fans of blues and country will enjoy the comfortable feeling Brown brings to his favourite records. These tunes include George Jones's "Someday My Day Will Come," Al Green's "I'm a Ram" and Stevie Wonder's "Gotta Have You," among others. Overall, Drive On is a good record for fans of the genre and a not some band intro for neophytes looking for leads into the blues. Otherwise, Michael Jerome Brown doesn't bowl me over.
