M.I.A. Embroiled in Legal Battle over Son

M.I.A. recently lashed out at the Grammy Awards for supposedly ripping her off, and now she's involved in another public spat, this time with ex-fiancé Benjamin Bronfman, the billionaire environmentalist with whom she has a son. Bronfman successfully grounded the singer, who otherwise known as Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam, with a temporary restraining order that prevents her from taking their son out of Brooklyn.

According to the New York Post, M.I.A. had allegedly threatened to take four-year-old Ikhyd to her native London, UK. In response, Bronfman reportedly went to Kings County Court in order to stop her from leaving without his permission.

In response, M.I.A. took to Twitter yesterday (March 13) and wrote, "BEN you cant take my son away from me 'The mother.' Just because you have money doesn't mean you hav ethe [sic] right."

She added, "WOW. THE BRONFMANS WANT TO TAKE MY CHILD AWAY FROM ME . WHAT KIND OF SHIT IS THAT ? THEY NEVER SEE HIM," and added, "Every child needs the MOTHER, I GREW UP WITHOUT A DAD. If grew up without my mother i wouldnt be here."

She subsequently deleted the tweets, but Radar Online captured images of them before they disappeared. She re-tweeted several fans' responses to her comments and those re-tweets are still visible.

Meanwhile, M.I.A. is preparing to release her album Matangi. The last we heard, this long-delayed collection was due to arrive April 15.
