With a DJ name like Meat Katie, you'd think that South London's Mark Pember was a tough guy. Although he's got a shiny bald head that could be characterized as "meaty," Pember showed his excited audience that he's kind of a sweetheart as the headliner of 2010's last Piknic Electronik. Playing a well-mixed set of his signature lo-fi techno, Pember energetically interacted with his audience more than most DJs, waving and signalling at those he found intriguing. And the fact that Meat Katie has played alongside greats like Erol Alkan and Simian at venues like Fabric and Glastonbury proves how special Montrealers were to have this man in their presence, for just a few hours of partying.
