Sacramento-via-New York faux-funk post-punk band !!! (pronounced chk chk chk, or any three repetitive sounds) launch their latest foray of minimalist dance party with this two-song EP. Droning, echoing, repetitive vocals and drum beats lock into a groove for the 18-minute duration, which neatly sidesteps the band’s greatest weakness so far — that this sort of thing can get a bit dull with over-exposure. The more Clash than electro title track is the highlight, a funky, organic groove that would move open-minded Mods and patchouli-steeped hippies to the same dance floor as the E’d-up ravers. Track two is even more dance-floor but not home-listening oriented; let it be the last tune you hear on your way out for the night and hope hope hope that !!! can expand their sound before embarking on anything more than two tracks at a time.
