Infamous Norwegian black metal trailblazers Mayhem have announced they're finally set to follow up 2007's Ordo Ad Chao with a new LP they've dubbed Esoteric Warfare. The band will assault listeners with their latest song cycle May 27 in North America via Season of Mist.
With Mayhem currently celebrating their 30th anniversary, a press release hints that the band's fifth full-length effort continues the iconic act's "legacy of boundless extremity" and further promises that the LP charts a course both "violent and turbulent." The recordings feature NIDINGR's Teloch, who replaced guitarist/composer Blasphemer following his departure in 2008.
The first taste of the set is album track "Psywar," which will also be released on a 7-inch sometime in April. You can check out a lyric video for the punishing, blast-heavy track, featuring lines about "human lab rats" being tortured, down below. The vinyl single will be backed by "From Beyond Event Horizon," an unreleased number the outfit recorded back in 2012.
Pre-order for the album have yet to pop up, but you can check out more info on the various colour vinyl editions of the single over here.
