Calgary-based doom metal duo Mares of Thrace popped up in 2010 with their debut disc The Moulting to much acclaim, and the appraisal has helped the outfit link up with iconic Canadian indie label Sonic Unyon's metal division for their next release.
A press release confirms that the Albertan act has just signed with Sonic Unyon Metal to deliver their next LP, The Pilgrimage. While neither tracklisting nor a release date have been unveiled just yet, the album was recorded last fall at Chicago's Engine Studio by producer Sanford Parker (Nachtmystium, Pelican, YOB) and is set to arrive sometime in April.
Teaming up with Sonic Unyon appears to be a match made in heaven, as Mares of Thrace admit that they spent their youths listening to albums put out by the venerable imprint.
"Some of the most influential records in my life, from way back in the '90s up till now, were Sonic Unyon releases," guitarist/vocalist Thérèse Lanz said in a statement. "It's impossible to understate the impact the label has had on Canadian independent music. Accordingly we are incredibly proud and stoked to partner with Sonic Unyon Metal for our upcoming records."
On top of the impending album release details, the band will also be unveiling North American tour plans sometime in the near future.
