Calgary-based noise-doom twosome Mares of Thrace signed with Sonic Unyon Metal a while back and piqued our interest with the announcement of their sophomore LP The Pilgrimage. Well, that much-anticipated album is arriving on April 24 via their new label, but you can stream the album in advance right here.
The duo have been creating music together for ten years, and although this marks only their second effort under the Mares of Thrace moniker, it's Thérèse Lanz and Stef MacKichan's third musical project together. Perfecting their sound over the last decade, they've ditched members, added "more and more amps" and Lanz used a customized baritone guitar for the recording of The Pilgrimage.
The new record follows up 2010's critically acclaimed The Moulting and was recorded in Chicago with Sanford Parker. Sure to be a heavy listen, check out The Pilgrimage from Mares of Thrace in the player below and catch the pair on their North American tour this spring.
