We've all heard the saying, "Never judge a book by its cover." For the most part, the same logic can be applied to albums; however, there are some record covers that accurately define the musical contents therein. The cover of Underworlds is a perfect example, promising despair, anger and endless bondage to all things dark and heavy. Mammoth Grinder's third full-length is an unrelenting sonic assault seething with pure aggression. Combining elements of grind, punk and death metal, the band's sound is as raw as it gets. Focusing on short, but quick bursts of energy, the majority of the tracks barely pass the three-minute mark, making the album rather brief — 28 minutes total. The speed and momentum of Underworlds are both major strengths and weaknesses, with the brevity working to the record's advantage, preventing the fast, but simple riffs from becoming repetitive and uninteresting.
