Montreals newest buzz band faced an expectant crowd and, ever so slowly, demonstrated the genius behind their latest record, Trompe loeil. The bands first obstacle was an old-fashioned tech battle between their soundman and the Festivals stage crew. Angry exchanges could be heard through the monitors and the standoff delayed the set by 20 minutes. As the band closed out an extended instrumental introduction, the power went out. This recurred at least two more times, lending more tension to the show. With power restored for good, Malajube played a short, sweat-soaked set of prog punk that was worth the wait.
