Drake's "Hold On, We're Going Home" was clearly a huge hit, and perhaps no one benefitted more from that success than Toronto duo Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman, collectively known as Majid Jordan. Building off that key co-producing and performing credit, five-track EP A Place Like This manages to hit the ground running with dreamy electro-R&B running on a similar wavelength to the Weeknd.
While the OVO Sound duo formerly known as GOOD People arguably fail to capture that mysterious ambiance or hit the hypnotic highs that Weeknd did throughout his House of Balloons phase, A Place Like This effectively shows that as a duo, Majid Jordan are no fluke. The '90s era of moody R&B is currently a popular style to absorb, and Majid Jordan employ it to good effect on tracks like "U," "All I Do" and "Her." Numbers like "Forever" and the title track are particular standouts. With only five tracks to showcase, the EP leaves folks wanting more, but this is clearly the desired effect; A Place Like This intrigues enough to leave listeners wondering what the duo could accomplish on a proper full-length outing.
