Madonna will return to the director's chair for an upcoming biopic about dancer Michaela DePrince.

Titled Taking Flight, the film tells the story of the orphan from Sierra Leone, who went on to become a world-class ballerina. The script was adapted by Camilla Blackett from DePrince's 2014 memoir Taking Flight: From War Orphan to Star Ballerina.

After losing her parents and three brothers in Sierra Leone, DePrince was adopted by an American family. She graduated from the American Ballet Theatre in New York, becoming a professional dancer in the Joburg Ballet in South Africa at the age of 17.

DePrince has gone on to appear in the 2012 Netflix documentary First Position and perform in Beyoncé's Lemonade visual album. She is currently a soloist in the Dutch National Ballet.

Taking Flight will mark Madonna's directorial follow-up to 2011's Oscar-nominated W.E.
