Lynyrd Skynyrd are celebrating half a century as a band with a new 4CD box set titled FYFTY, out October 13.
The box set will feature some of the band's biggest hits, including "Sweet Home Alabama," "Tuesday's Gone," and "Gimme Back My Bullets," as well as previously unreleased live versions of "Free Bird" and "Gimme Three Steps," which was part of guitarist Gary Rossington's final Lynyrd Skynyrd show before his death in March.
"We miss him so much," bandleader Johnny Van Zant wrote in the liner notes for the box set. "What kept me going was calling [Rossington] and having these conversations. He was my cheerleader. So now I'm gonna have to remember his voice to keep my spirits up and keep this thing going… as a tribute, and so people remember him and Ronnie and all the others who have been part of this."
The physical version of the set will include a 40-page booklet with never-before-seen archival photographs of the original band alongside photos of the modern-day iteration of Skynyrd, notes by filmmaker and friend of the band Cameron Crowe, and liner notes and song analyses by rock journalist Gary Graff.
