Swedish songstress Lykke Li appeared on Australian radio station Triple J last week and performed her own version of the Righteous Brothers' classic "Unchained Melody."
The song, which was originally recorded in 1965 by the Righteous Brothers, became an international hit and jukebox standard despite being originally written in 1955 by Alex North and Hy Zaret. The song has gone on to be re-recorded by countless artists and Lykke Li is the latest musician to revamp the classic track.
The clean, crisp production of modern digital recording immediately stands out here in comparison to versions recorded a half-century ago. Li performs a stripped-down version of the song, with her soft, reverb-heavy vocals being accompanied by simple acoustic guitar chords, but the emotional power of the song remains unchanged.
