As 2023 draws to a close and people forecast what trends will be in and out for next year, Lorde is likewise plotting her own reinvention.

The pop star took to Instagram last night (December 17) to share a rare social media update on the follow-up to 2021's Solar Power with a photo of herself wearing pyjamas and the hot girl headphones, AirPods Max (which retail for $779 CAD, once again revealing hotness is only attained outside of my tax bracket), captioned, "Listening to myself."

However, she cautioned fans not to get too antsy yet — there's still a while left to wait before LP4. "We're not CLOSE close you guys… i'm just getting so hype n needed to let u know," Lorde wrote in response to an eager fan elsewhere on the social media platform. "Start ur excitement on a low flame and bring it up to a gentle simmer .. we building stamina for this chapter."

In recent years, the singer-songwriter has primarily opted for her brilliant email newsletter as the vehicle to keep her supporters posted about what she's working on and thinking about. She informed fans back in September that she had been living in London since the spring, working on new material while coping with both a mystery illness and heartbreak.

She's been expressing excitement about her next record since the year's outset, explaining in an interview that she always intends "to move as quickly as I fucking can," which inevitably ends up taking on various forms — like the six-year gap between 2013's Pure Heroine and 2017's Melodrama, and the four years between the latter and her latest — "but this one, I really am trying to."
