Please make sure you have your meditation app handy for this one: Live Nation Canada has announced its acquisition of Toronto's historic Opera House.
The Queen Street East theatre is the latest addition to the corporation's global venue portfolio, Venue Nation. This means many shows booked at the Opera House in the future will be Live Nation events — tickets for which will be sold on Ticketmaster. Get ready for some service fees!
The Opera House originally opened as a theatre in 1901. It was transformed into a single-screen cinema before metamorphosing into the charmingly auspicious live music venue we know it as today in 1989 by the Elinas family. According to a press release, the Elinas family will remain involved in the venue's daily operations.
"The success of this legendary venue is due to the support from our partners, promoters, artists, management and agents who trusted us with hosting their events over the years," the venue's general manager, Athena Ellinas-Towers, said in a statement. "Most importantly our staff, those that are here with us today and those that have been here throughout the past. We are honoured to have Live Nation Canada continue to bring the best in music, culture and fan experiences to our historic venue for years to come."
"We're honoured to add the Opera House to our venue portfolio in Canada," added Live Nation Canada Business Operations President Wayne Zronik. "This venue has played an important role in shaping Toronto's vibrant arts and culture scene and we're eager to showcase the best of the Opera House and build on the legacy that the Ellinas family have built."
Last month, Live Nation Canada announced a booking deal with the new 5,000-seat venue set to open at the Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto. The entertainment giant also recently acquired the KEE to Bala in Muskoka.
