Les Savy Fav's Syd Butler Blogs About NHL Playoffs

BY Cam LindsayPublished Apr 15, 2008

Les Savy Fav bassist and Frenchkiss Records founder Syd Butler is a major hockey fan. He told Exclaim! last year about his love for the Washington Capitals and his hate-on for Sid "The Whiny Brat" Crosby, and now he's launched his own personal fan blog through NHL.com's official fan site.

In the blog, Butler recaps the Capitals' first round games versus the Philadelphia Flyers, while adding candid photos from the team's dressing room (yep, that's Alexander Ovechkin behind Butler above), curious bits of advice, like avoiding the Ishkabibbles cheese steaks in Philly, and working PR for a Caps street team called the "Red Man Group.”

Also included is a very professional "about me" blurb he wrote for his profile, which reads:

Syd Butler is the bassist for Les Savy Fav, a New York-based band considered among the godfathers of the independent rock music scene. Butler founded the Frenchkiss Records label, with the intent to release the band’s albums, and has since signed over 35 bands, including the Hold Steady, Thunderbirds Are Now, and the Dodos. Ever since growing up in the Washington D.C. area, Syd has been a die-hard Washington Capitals fan. He can’t wait to see what the Stanley Cup Playoffs bring for his Caps.

In an email to Pitchfork the Caps fan spoke of his goal (no pun intended) with the blog, saying, "I'm doing my best to keep up with the Caps and all the publicity events and creative marketing. This organization has one of the best sports websites and they keep it fresh every day. The better the Caps do the better the blog will be :)"

On the music front, Butler's band Les Savy Fav are currently prepping the digital release of their first live album, After the Balls Drop, whicn, er, drops April 29 via the Frenchkiss website.
