Winnipeg indie rock outfit Les Jupes apparently have a new full-length in the works, but in the meantime, they are releasing the four-song EP Negative Space. It comes out today (September 10) through Head in the Sand Records, and it's available to stream in full on Exclaim.ca.
The EP was produced by Rusty Matyas of Imaginary Cities and was engineered by Cameron Loeppky (the Weakerthans). The results frequently recall the National's glum atmospheric rock, particularly thanks to singer Michael P Falk's deep croon. Opener "Save Your Friends" swells to a triumphant, trumpet-boosted crescendo, while "The Voices" and "Interview with a Contract Killer" are more spiky and upbeat.
