The last we heard from Land of Talk front-woman Liz Powell, she had officially joined Broken Social Scene after becoming involved with the group as a touring singer. But when the collective's latest album, Forgiveness Rock Record, came out earlier this month, Powell was nowhere to be found, as newcomer Lisa Lobsinger had evidently taken her place.
Now that Powell is no longer deeply involved with the Toronto, ON-based supergroup, she has returned to Land of Talk, who will be releasing their second LP on August 24. Entitled Cloak and Cipher, it will be the group's second full-length, the follow-up to 2008's Some Are Lakes. Like that album, it will be released via Saddle Creek.
Powell told AUX TV that the collection was produced by the Besnard Lakes' Jace Lasek. It also reportedly features an appearance from Patrick Watson, who contributed a piano solo to the song "The Hate I Won't Commit," as well as Arcade Fire drummer Jeremy Gara, who played on "Quarry Hymns." And just to add to the list of guests, members of Stars, Silver Mount Zion Band and Esmerine appear on Cloak and Cipher as well.
Powell also told AUX TV, "Spoiler alert, I'm already in a hip-hop band! We'll drop the album at some point. After 2012, if the world still exists."
Land of Talk are currently on tour in the U.S., with two Canadian dates to follow in July. Expect more shows to be announced as we get closer to Cloak and Cipher's release.
