Over the course of their half-hour opening set, La Bronze's Nadia Essadiq variably found herself handling drums or keys while accompanied by a guitarist and synthesizers, then had the rest of the band step back so she could invite a guest performer onstage for an acoustic duet that had her singing her last lines crowd surfing above the pit.
The sound shifted from electro-pop to trip-hop to folkier territory from song to song, and Essadiq was strikingly casual about all of it. Yet, whatever sound La Bronze happened to be concerned with at the moment, Essadiq's voice was the through line, shining, sublime, and at the height of its power, ready to carry you away.
