Published Feb 18, 2021Late last year, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard shared plans to release their 17th studio album L.W., the direct follow-up to K.G. and third album in the band's series of "explorations into microtonal tunings." The record is out on February 26, and today, they've shared a new cut of the album, "Pleura."
The song arrives alongside a John Angus Stewart-directed video, which was filmed just last night. The director previously teamed up with King Gizz on their 2020 concert film and live album, Chunky Shrapnel.
Stewart explained the process of filming the band's latest video live from their studio:
I think a true document of live music shouldn't rely entirely on editing. There is something that happens with the way we perceive images, if something "live" is too produced, your mind sort of loses interest. With this format, we wanted to leave the editing up to the viewer. The decision of who to look at, and at what time determines each individual viewing experience. With each watch, your experience will be completely different, which mirrors Gizzard's experience playing the song live. The process is the same, yet the result is different.
The band's Stu Mackenzie previously said that L.W. would be delayed, but it appears everything is back on schedule for release later this month. You can pre-save their forthcoming record here, and watch their latest video below.
