Kimya Dawson Goes From Juno To Sesame Street

After kick-starting her career with songs about crack, hookers and "suckin’ dick for ecstasy,” Kimya Dawson is taking her message to the kids. The ex-Moldy Peaches anti-folkie may soon be writing music for the kids TV classic Sesame Street, after producers called her up and asked her to contribute to the popular series.

"We’re talking about all different kinds of things. I might do some music work with [Sesame Street], which is, like, my dream," Dawson told Billboard. "I'm a kid of the '70s, and I definitely grew up with Sesame Street — the old Sesame Street. I'm just a huge, huge fan."

Also, in August, Dawson is scheduled to release more kids-orientated material with a children album titled Alphabutt, replacing Moldy Peaches song titles like "Who’s Got the Crack” and "Downloading Porn with Dave” with family-friendly tracks such as "Little Monster Babies," "Wiggle My Tooth" and "Pee Pee in the Potty." Along with a bunch of kids and other musical friends backing Dawson, the album will feature former Third Eye Blind guitarist Kevin Cadogan (yes!).

"They're not those little fake, smiley faced, typical kid backup singers," Dawson said of her posse of kid singers. "They're screaming and saying whatever they want. It's how kids want to do music, not like when they're in school taking lessons and all sitting in rows on bleachers." (So basically, she’s recorded kids being a bunch of brats.)

All this follows Dawson’s massive success with the Juno soundtrack, which will likely continue when a second volume of the soundtrack is released digitally May 13.
