The Pixies haven't played a show since 2011, but when (and if) they next appear on stage again, co-founder Kim Deal won't be there. The bassist (and occasional singer) has quit the band.
Remaining band members Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering announced Deal's departure with the following statement:
"We are sad to say that Kim Deal has decided to leave the Pixies. We are very proud to have worked with her on and off over the last 25 years. Despite her decision to move on, we will always consider her a member of the Pixies, and her place will always be here for her. We wish her all the best."
Perhaps Deal's decision has something to do with the fact that her band the Breeders have had a busy year touring in support of their reissued album Last Splash.
As for the Pixies, their early career will soon be documented with a coffee table book thanks to a massively successful Kickstarter campaign that saw them raise over $234,000.
