Kenny Chesney talks of hope, courage and resilience after Hurricane Irma destroyed the Virgin Islands in the Caribbean, on Songs for the Saints. The Knoxville, TN-born superstar is donating the proceeds from this album to help rebuild the devastated area.

Chesney co-produced the album with Buddy Cannon in both Nashville and Key West. The folk title track starts at a slow pace that enhances the instrumentation, but then gradually accelerates in tempo, while the '90s-style ballad "Trying to Reason With Hurricane Season" carries Jimmy Buffett's textured soulful vocals and an island flavour. "Love for Love City," which features Ziggy Marley, intensifies the tropical reggae theme with steel drums. The acoustic guitar picking on folk-pop "Better Boat" features Mindy Smith singing chorus harmonies and its lyrical analogy compares the journey of life to rough waters on a boat.

Chesney's folk-pop Songs for the Saints is a charity album that although compassionate and kind, carries few memorable and catchy country tunes.
