Jazzy hip-hop producer/saxophonist Terrace Martin was a notable contributor to Kendrick Lamar's masterful 2015 album To Pimp a Butterfly, and now he's made the album's most iconic song his own, as he's released a remix of "Alright."
Retitled "Alright (11)," this song mixes the beat-driven hip-hop buoyancy of the original while simultaneously giving it an abstract jazz-noir reworking. There are swirling synth pads and sax leads aplenty, as Martin solos over practically the entire thing. Many of Lamar's raps are preserved, but some of the vocals are chopped up and there's more of an emphasis on the instrumental parts.
As with the original version of "Alright," it features Pharrell Williams on the hook. Hear it below [via The Fader].
