Los Angeles-based R&B favourite Kelela has yet to drop her much anticipated Hallucinogen EP, but while fans still have to wait a little bit longer until it arrives, the singer-songwriter has offered up a new track to tide over impatient listeners.
"Rewind" hears Kelela's airy, emotive vocals atop a beat that starts off sparse and synth-y, but grows into a bombastic backing for the chorus. Co-produced by Kelela, Kingdom and Nugget, a press release describes the track as a "mutant form of Miami-bass-freestyle-electro" that serves as a suitable soundtrack for "furtive companions [to] lock eyes across a chaotic dance floor."
An upbeat number that provides a glimmer of hope amidst Hallucinogen's darker themes, "Rewind" can be heard in the player below.
Hallucinogen is now scheduled for an October 9 release via Kelela's own Cherry Coffee (in the U.S.) and Warp in the rest of the world.
