Katie Stelmanis

This quartet of young Torontonian ladies offered swirling epic cacophony of gothic new wave keys, haunting harmonies, tastefully sparse guitar and inventive and octopus-limbed percussion that suitably fleshed out Stelmanis’ excellent songwriting. Vocally comparable to Kate Bush, musically Katie Stelmanis shares a closer kinship with the slightly demented and unpredictable arrangements and structures of Sunset Rubdown and Xiu Xiu. It was a bit out-there for the average Horseshoe attendee, but a breath of fresh creativity to my ears.
