This is a more upbeat, almost jolly emo that skirts around the edges of that classification without truly committing to it. Emotion Is Dead is their second album and it is a record that thrives on melody. According to the band, they are creating their own new chapter of classic rock, but that does them an injustice because there's a lot more to it than that. They do tend to rely on the same tricks again and again on every song - quiet verse and loud chorus - but that is hardly a criticism unique to this band. There's much for emocore folks to like with the Juliana Theory, but not enough to make it stand out in the bigger expanses of rock.
