Always one to laugh in the face of genre, Marianas Trench bandleader Josh Ramsay has announced his debut solo record The Josh Ramsay Show via 604 Records.

The album's first single "Lady Mine" is set to arrive on December 3 and features Nickelback's Chad Kroeger — one of several Canadian artists who lent vocals to the collection. Other guest stars include Fefe Dobson, Serena Ryder, Fionn, Tyler Shaw, Dallas Smith, Ria Mae, Sara Ramsay and DJ Sharkpocalypse.

For his pandemic project, Ramsay challenged himself to write songs in as many genres as possible while in isolation last year. As its title would suggest, The Josh Ramsay Show is envisioned as a variety show.

"I see it as my 'calling card' — not just as a songwriter, but as a producer and arranger," the artist said in a statement. While Marianas Trench has been his primary musical endeavour since the band's 2006 debut Fix Me, Ramsay has long worked as a producer and songwriter for other artists — perhaps most famously behind a little Carly Rae Jepsen song called "Call Me Maybe." Ever heard of it?

Across the The Josh Ramsay Show's 18 tracks, Ramsay makes a panoramic exploration of diverse musical genres and styles, aiming to never repeat himself. He also played every instrument you'll hear on the album, minus the horn section on the '70s rock-inspired "Lady Mine."

Fans have already drawn the comparison between Ramsay's hosting steez and images of his late father Miles, who had a CBC radio show with the Dave Robbins Big Band in the mid-'60s named — you guessed it! — The Miles Ramsay Show.
However inadvertent, there's a lot of CanCon history coming together with this one. The Josh Ramsay Show is set to arrive in early 2022.
