Josh Homme's Desert Sessions Get Reissue Treatment From Southern Lord

BY Stephen CarlickPublished Dec 7, 2009

Thanks, no doubt, to his involvement in the new supergroup Them Crooked Vultures, Josh Homme's stock has gone way up. Accordingly, the man's out-of-print Desert Sessions Vol. 7 & 8 will see a re-release care of doom heavyweight Southern Lord next year.

Originally released as two limited ten-inch records and as one CD, the albums were a part of Homme's Desert Sessions project, in which he invited special guests to drive out to his studio in the California Desert to jam. The sessions have included PJ Harvey and Twiggy Ramirez, as well as many other Queens of the Stone Age-related acts. Vol. 7 & 8 sport, among others, Mark Lanegan, Brendan McNichol (Masters of Reality), Nick Eldorado (Like Hell), Fred Drake (Earthlings?), Chris Goss (Masters of Reality), Samatha Maloney (Hole and Motley Crue), Alain Johannes and Natasha Schneider (Chris Cornell band).

Desert Sessions Vol. 7 & 8 is due out on January 25 in the UK, and presumably the day after here in North America. Southern Lord is also planning a Desert Sessions best-of, to be released later in 2010, in case ten records (and counting) seem overwhelming.

Thanks to FACT for the heads-up.
