After a selection of John Lennon's solo material was remixed for a box set last year, his 1970 solo debut John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band will now be given a similar treatment.
Plastic Ono Band (The Ultimate Mixes) will arrive in a "Super Deluxe" 6-CD, 2-Blu-ray box set edition on April 16 via Capitol/UMe, alongside 2-LP and 2-CD editions.
The box set edition boasts six CDs, two Blu-ray audio discs, a 132-page book, a "War Is Over!" poster, and two postcards. You can find an unboxing video alongside the "Ultimate Mix" of "Mother" below.
Its massive tracklist, which you can pore over here, features 87 previously unreleased recordings, along with outtakes, demos, jam sessions, the complete live recording session of Yoko Ono's Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band companion album and more.
Ono oversaw the reissue's production and creative direction, while engineer Paul Hicks and mixers/engineers Rob Stevens and Sam Gannon reprised their roles after working on the similarly massive 2018 reissue of Lennon's Imagine.
"With the Plastic Ono Band albums, John and I liked the idea of this really raw, basic, truthful reality that we were going to be giving to the world," Ono writes in the preface of the included book. "We were influencing other artists, giving them courage, giving dignity to a certain style of vulnerability and strength that was not accepted in society at the time. It was a revolution for a Beatle to say, 'Listen: I'm human, I'm real.' It took a lot of courage for him to do it."
Produced by the late Phil Spector, Plastic Ono Band marked Lennon's first solo release following the breakup of the Beatles. It was recorded at Abbey Road Studios, the famous recording space that will be explored in a documentary later this year.
