Joel RL Phelps and G. Stuart Dahlquist to Release Debut Album as Thine

Onetime Silkworm frontman Joel RL Phelps and G. Stuart Dahlquist of Asva/Burning Witch have been friends for close to 25 years, but they're finally taking their relationship to the next level by releasing an album together. Their band is called Thine, and they will release Claw in August on Northern Spy Records.

The collaboration was sparked when Phelps heard Asva's collaboration with Phillippe Petit in 2011. He proposed adding his vocals to an instrumental track, and the resulting song was called "Thine." Dahlquist liked it so much that a collaboration was born.

Phelps lives in Vancouver and Dahlquist is in Seattle, so the pair made tracks in their home studios and shared ideas via email over an 18-month span. A press release describes the album as "lush," saying that it's "teeming with a quiet intensity, subtle beauty, and pulsating with moments of raw, emotional catharsis."

Thine will be touring the U.S. in support of the release. There is a tentative schedule on Facebook, although no venues have been confirmed. There are currently no Canadian stops.

Thine previously released a song called "One World" on a 2013 tribute compilation for Jason Molina. Hear that track below. Also below, see a video for the song "Been to the Water," which also came out last year.
