Jessie Reyez is throwing more weight behind her debut album Before Love Came to Kill Us, giving us an emotional video for its latest single "Intruders."
The animated clip takes on the dark realities of colonization, showing Indigenous women taking on European colonizers. As a press release explains, "The video serves as an allegory for today's society and the detrimental effects brought on by governmental and economic institutions that were built on oppression and theft."
Or as Reyez simply puts it: "Colonialism is in the mitochondria of racism."
Alongside the video, Reyez has announced she will donating 100 percent of her streaming royalties from "Intruders" in the U.S. from June 18 to December 31 to Colin Kaepernick's Know Your Rights organization.
