Jeff Lang

'Running by the Rock' (EP stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jan 18, 2016

Australian music man Jeff Lang is coming to Western Canada this winter, and to coincide with the upcoming shows, he's releasing a new EP that will be exclusive to Canada. Titled Running by the Rock, the new record can be given an advanced listen right here at Exclaim!

The singer-songwriter's latest release brings together five of Lang's originals, plus a traditional Scottish folk song. The six-song set opens with the rootsy grooves of "Pull of the Drift," then moves into riffier territory on the title track.

"By Face Not Name" softens his sound a bit with pretty female vocal accompaniment, while "The House Carpenter" hears a modern take on the ancient Scottish folk ditty. "Lubbock Texas" and "The Janitor" round out the collection, delivering a burst of Southern twang before ending on a gentle, melancholic ballad.
