Jay-Z Reportedly Signs X-Factor Runner-Up Cher Lloyd to Roc Nation

Roc Nation has its fair share of upstarts, from hair-whipping tween sensation Willow Smith to recently acquired spitter Jay Electronica, but the Jay-Z-run record label is always on the hunt for the next big thing. It seems Jigga has found it overseas courtesy of 17-year-old UK singer Cher Lloyd.

Though the recent X-Factor runner-up was apparently embroiled in a bidding war between X-Factor/American Idol guru Simon Cowell and Black Eyed Peas main man Will.i.am, the UK's Sun newspaper [via AllHipHop] reports that the young siren was swooped up by Hova.

"After weighing up the pros and cons, it was thought that the team at Roc Nation would be best placed to turn her dreams of stardom into a reality," a label rep told the Sun.

The reported signing is likely to stick in the craw of Will.i.am, who had already collaborated with the aspiring diva.

"When should we release the song we recorded in london??? (It's a smasher)," Will.i.am tweeted earlier this week (December 27). "The day after the last xfactor... cher lloyd and I went in the studio and made a mega smasher."

It's unclear when the as-of-yet untitled track will drop, or whether the Black Eyed Peas man will put the song on loan to Roc Nation.
