Life is truly starting to feel like an episode of 30 Rock. Like the ill-fated Jenna Maroney sub-plot where her Janis Joplin movie was slowly transformed into a film about "Janet Jopler," actress and beloved She & Him singer Zooey Deschanel has revealed that the real-life Joplin biopic has suffered a similar fate.
In an interview with WENN [via TwentyFourBit], Deschanel revealed that the film "seems kind of dead now."
"It's such a fantastic story and a dream role, but it doesn't seem to want to be made, and you can't force these things," she said. "I don't think any of the work I did was lost. I enjoyed doing the research, so I don't regret any of it."
Among the many reasons for the endless delays are the numerous royalty issues for Joplin's life rights and catalogue. Maybe it's time Deschanel pursued a Janet Jopler movie of her own?
