Just ahead of the launch of Netflix's new The Get Down series, a song that Janelle Monáe contributed to the show's soundtrack has made its premiere. Featuring a sample from an old Jackson 5 song, her track is called "Hum Along & Dance (Gotta Get Down)."
The new tune was premiered today (August 9) through Ebro Darden's Beats 1 program, following an interview between the host and Monáe. There, the singer described how she and producers collaborated on the piece, which samples elements of vintage Jackson 5 number "Hum Along and Dance."
"I just basically put Janelle Monáe on it, but I wanted to keep the essence of Jackson 5," she explained to Ebro, adding, "Michael was one of my heroes."
You can sample the cross-generational R&B song down below.
As previously reported, six episodes of Baz Luhrmann's The Get Down premiere on August 12. The show had recently been teased via a stream of Miguel's "Cadillac."
