Jackson Browne joined Phoebe Bridgers for a new version of her song "Kyoto" in March, and the two have now come together again in Browne's new video for new single "My Cleveland Heart."
Directed by Alissa Torvinen Kouame, the video finds Browne centre stage in an operating theatre, preparing to undergo heart surgery led by Bridgers, his bandmates (Val McCallum, Greg Leisz, Jeff Young, Mauricio Lewak, Bob Glaub, Pete Thomas and Dave Faragher), and a doctor that looks an awful lot like himself.
As you'll find below, the surgery goes off without a hitch — and Bridgers is able to save the surgical spoils for herself in delightfully freaky fashion.
Browne told Rolling Stone that he enlisted the director to helm the video after watching Bridgers' visuals for "I Know the End," which she also directed.
"It was the most fun I've ever had making a video," he said. "I'm a big fan of Phoebe, so I picked Alissa. And then it was really sort of in the last days of planning that someone said, 'Phoebe could be one of these nurses.' From there, it was pretty much improvised."
In a statement, the director added: "What an honour to collaborate with Jackson. His creativity is inspiring, not solely in music, but in everything he puts his energy into. We came up with a script for the video very serendipitously, and Phoebe joining us was a wonderful surprise. The way she received Jackson's heart and the shot of her watching from the wings... perfectly dark and poetic and Phoebe."
